System overview SERCOS interface

SERCOS is an internationally standardised digital interface for communication between controllers and drives according to IEC 61800-7. Originally developed as a fast fibre-optic drive bus system, SERCOS is very widely used in Motion Control applications. The advantages such as high data rate and short cycle time can be used also for the I/O periphery. A fibre-optic ring is used as the transmission medium in SERCOS II; communication takes place in SERCOS III via the physical medium of Ethernet.
